About

People ask me ALL THE TIME.

Well, it’s fun. Especially now.

I’m old enough to be myself, for a change! I am excited to be free of youth. Guess what? It means I’m not crazed or confused or cornered.

I’m confident, creative and caring.

I’m Julia Godwin Roberts.

Why Julia Godwin Roberts?

It’s my given name. And I’ve given myself permission to live my rightful life.

  • I get to write!
    • Four times a week with clients on Zoom.
    • I am published – both traditionally and hybrid.
  • I get to act!
    • I’m taking improv classes at the Groundlings.
    • And not for nothing I could join the union with the name: Julia Godwin Roberts.
  • I have a TEDx talk, and get asked to speak at writers’ conferences.
    • My expertise in the creative process and creative thinking styles helps writers prevent writer’s block, and write better.
    • I’m often the only speaker helping writers with the emotional and mental side of trying to write.
  • I’m working on PLATFORM – that nightmarish word for authors
    • BeingJuliaRoberts is podcasting, tiktoking, instagramming and sharing goodreads.
    • Write Without the Fight is still Substacking and writing a weekly newsletter to writers about the creative process and creativity.
    • Follow me – everywhere! Links in the header and footer!

It is a great time of life.

The Beforetimes…

Years ago, when I lived in NYC, I was a brainstormer and marketing consultant. I worked around the clock for big national brands (like Burger King, American Express, Heinz Foods, HBO and Nickelodeon) on their promotional concepts. I was known for out of the box (read: crazy) ideas that got national attention.

I always wanted to write – but I kept NOT writing.

That is the first thing you have to do to change your life.

Stop Not Writing.

Stop Not Writing…

Now, my kids are grown. I have time to write, think, be on set and act, travel to speaking gigs. I love to garden, knit, sew, cook and renovate houses I happen to be living in. I live with my very funny husband in a mid-century modern ranch in Los Angeles. We don’t mind admitting: WE LOVE TV and READING. It is a legit Friday night to kick back with a book and just plow through to its conclusion.

And we have two white doggies – one giant, and one cute and small, okay, both cute.
